Bagasse Fibre Processing Overview

Abstract
On May 3 - 4, 2007, the Sugar Research and Innovation Centre of the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, Australia, held a symposium and workshop on "Developments in pulp and paper manufacture from sugarcane bagasse" at which Mr. Hurter was one of the key presenters. The symposium and workshop was attended by representatives from sugarcane growers, sugar companies, pulp and paper companies and academia.
Mr. Hurter's presentation "Bagasse Fibre Processing Overview" provides a general overview of the bagasse pulping process including moist depithing, long term wet bulk storage, wet depithing, cooking and brownstock washing and bleaching. The presentation also covers papermaking for fine paper grades.
